Le Tchad de nos jours. Adam, la soixantaine, ancien champion de natation est maitre nageur de la piscine d’un hôtel de luxe à N’Djamena. Lors du rachat de l’hôtel par des repreneurs chinois, il doit laisser la place à son fils Abdel. Il vit très mal cette situation qu’il considère comme une déchéance sociale. Le pays est en proie à la guerre civile et les rebelles armés menacent le pouvoir. Le gouvernement, en réaction, fait appel à la population pour un « effort de guerre » exigeant d’eux argent ou enfant en âge de combattre les assaillants. Adam est ainsi harcelé par son Chef de Quartier pour sa contribution. Mais Adam n’a pas d’argent, il n’a que son fils…

Ce long métrage traite à la fois de la déchéance sociale d’un homme et de sa douleur de père dans un pays miné par la guerre et transformé par la mondialisation. UN HOMME QUI CRIE N’EST PAS UN OURS QUI DANSE raconte une Afrique au coeur des bouleversements mondiaux avec l’arrivée de nouvelles puissances économiques et financières comme la Chine. L’Afrique qui attire les investisseurs, porteuse de potentiel de développement est malheureusement aussi l’Afrique de toutes les souffrances et de toutes les hostilités fratricides. Avec ce film, Goï Goï Productions dresse le portrait d’une Afrique déchirée par les contradictions meurtrières qui la minent.

Present-day Chad. Adam, sixty something, a former swimming champion, is pool attendant at a smart N’Djamena hotel. When the hotel gets taken over by new Chinese owners, he is forced to give up his job to his son Abdel. Terribly resentful, he feels socially humiliated.
The country is in the throes of a civil war. Rebel forces are attacking the government. The authorities demand that the population contribute to the « war effort », giving money or volunteers old enough to fight off the assailants. The District Chief constantly harasses Adam for his contribution. But Adam is penniless; he only has his son….

De zestig jarig Adam, voormalig zwemkampioen, is badmeester in het chique N’Djamena hotel. Wanneer het hotel wordt overgenomen door nieuwe Chinese eigenaren, wordt Adam gedwongen zijn baan over te dragen aan zijn zoon Abdel. Hij voelt zich vernederd en afgewezen.

Het land (Tjaad) staat aan het begin van een burgeroorlog. Rebellen vallen de overheid aan. De autoriteiten verplichten de bevolking bij te dragen aan de strijd door geld te geven of door vrijwilligers in te zetten die oud genoeg zijn om tegen de rebellen te vechten. Het districtshoofd vraagt Adam naar zijn bijdrage voor de oorlog. Maar Adam heeft geen geld, hij heeft alleen zijn zoon…

På ett lyxhotell i Tchads huvudstad N’Djamena arbetar Adam, även kallad Champ sedan sin tid som simmästare. Nu är han dryga 50 år och lever ett harmoniskt liv med sin fru och vuxne son. Arbetet som poolskötare är hans liv – till den dag då sonen plötsligt tar hans jobb. Samtidigt står det redan krigshärjade landet än en gång inför våldsamma stridigheter och rebellgrupper närmar sig. Myndigheterna hetsar alla att bidra till kampen mot rebellerna. En man som skriker vann jurypriset vid Cannesfestivalen 2010 och utsågs till vinnande film på Cinemafrica 2011. Filmen vaggar oss försiktigt in i en behaglig vardagslunk för att sedan kasta oss ut i tyst och klaustrofobisk förskräckelse. Med sin senaste film befäster Mahamat-Saleh Haroun sin position som en av Afrikas mest intressanta filmskapare idag.
