Azza El-Hassan est une cinéaste indépendante palestinienne. Elle est née en 1971 à Amman en Jordanie dans une famille de réfugiés palestiniens, et elle grandit à Beyrouth au Liban.
Après des études universitaires en Ecosse et en Angleterre, elle travaille à la télévision MBC de Londres. Son travail a été produit et montré par un grand nombre de chaines de télévision internationales comme la BBC, Arte, YLE et ARD. Entre 1996 et 2007, elle tourne plusieurs documentaires dont « 3cm less » (2003), « Kings and extras » (2004) ou encore « Always, look them in the eyes » (2007).
En 1996, elle se rend en Palestine et réalise son premier documentaire Arab women speak out. Elle décide alors de rester et s’implique dans divers projets sociaux. En 1998, elle réalise Title deeds from Moses, un film sur les colonies israéliennes autour de Jérusalem, et Sindbad is a she en 1999. Elle présente le projet de film A STORY OF A PALESTINIAN GANGSTER (« L’histoire d’un gangster palestinien ») en Tunisie, à l’Atelier de Projet des JCC 2008.
Par ailleurs, elle donne des cours sur le cinéma et la vidéo au département « Modern media institute » de l’Université al-Qods (Jérusalem).

Azza el-Hassan is an award winner independent documentary producer and director. She holds an MA in Television Documentary, Goldsmith College, University of London (1995) and a BA in Film and Television studies and Sociology from Glasgow University, Scotland (1994). Her films have been produced and shown by various national and international TV networks like the BBC (Britain), ARTE (France & Germany), YLE (Finland), ARD (Germany) and many others.

Geboren 1971 in Amman (Jordan)

Master-Abschluss in der Sparte TV Dokumentation am GoldSmiths College/University of London (1995); Bachelor-Abschluss in Film und TV Studies sowie Soziologie an der Glasgow University (1994).

Arbeiten von Azza El-Hassan wurden von internationalen TV Stationen wie BBC, arte, YLE, ARD u.a. produziert und ausgestrahlt. Ihre Filme wurden auf Filmfestivals und im Rahmen von Kunstprojekten, wie z. B. beim Yamamgata Documentary Film Festival (Japan) und dem International Film Festival IDFA (Holland) und bei Dok Leipzig (Deutschland) gezeigt.

Derzeit entwickelt sie ihren ersten Spielfilm, dessen Drehbuch im Rahmen des Talente Koproduktionsmarktes bei der Berlinale 2009 und beim Carthage Film Festival 2008 ausgezeichnet wurde.
