Mbarek est un petit paysan qui cultive son lopin de terre dans un village du Maroc profond. Il y vit avec sa femme Ayda, son vieux père malade et son fils adolescent Ayoub. Ce bout de terre est leur unique source de revenu, mais la sécheresse bat son plein! Alors que Mbarek passe son temps à creuser un puits dans l’espoir de pallier le manque d’eau, il reçoit un courrier officiel qui menace la saisie de son champ !

M’Barek struggles not to lose his land; his raison d’être. Ida, his wife, and the cornerstone of the family, struggles to carry her husband’s burden in silence. Ayoub grazes his father’s sheep and talks to the fairies. And his grandfather incessantly calls out his wife’s name: Rahma.

Mbarek is a farmer who ekes out a living on a small plot of land in a rural Moroccan village. He lives there with his pregnant wife Ayda, his sick father and his teen-aged son Ayoub who has Down’s Syndrome. This small piece of land is the family’s sole source of income, and the family is devastated when the village is hit by a severe drought. Mbarek begins to dig a well in the desperate hope of finding a new source of water, when an official letter arrives threatening the confiscation of his land.
