La lutte contre le sida prend une nouvelle tournure en Afrique du Sud : la population s’organise au sein de mouvements militants. Parmi elle, Zackie Achmet. Alors qu’il serait en mesure de se faire soigner, il refuse les anti rétroviraux tant qu’ils ne seront pas disponibles pour tous. Il incarne aujourd’hui la lutte des séropositifs en Afrique du Sud. Une lutte à la fois contre les laboratoires pharmaceutiques du Nord et contre le refus des sociétés et gouvernements du Sud de faire face à la plus grande hécatombe jamais connue au sein du continent noir. Ma vie en plus raconte cette lutte « publique » qui oblige à regarder en face les réalités du monde, et à s’interroger sur nos choix, nos priorités en matière de société et d’économie.

There are nearly 5 million South Africans currently infected with HIV. The South African government has failed to provide anti-retroviral medicines to them in public hospitals and clinics. And, incredibly, the President of the country, Thabo Mbeki, has consistently questioned the link between HIV and AIDS.
It is in this context that Zackie Achmat, the HIV positive acting chairperson of the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC), refuses to take anti-retrovirals until they are made available by the government in public hospitals.
Filmed over five months, IT’S MY LIFE follows Zackie as he leads a
court battle against the multinational drug companies to allow the introduction of cheaper, generic drugs, and takes on the South African government for it’s confusing policies around HIV/AIDS.
