AFRIKAMERA: Actuel cinema from Africa
The nonprofit cultural association, toucouler e.V., has since 2007 engaged in the intercultural dialogue between Africa and Germany. With the « AFRIKAMERA – current African cinema » film festival, toucouleur e.V. seeks to counter the lack of awareness towards contemporary African film production in the German capital.
Assisted by the film media, AFRIKAMERA presents the overwhelming diversity of the African continent, consisting not only of the « typical » problems, such as violence, deceases and natural desasters, to the Berliner audience. These stereotype images and opinions regarding the continent will be contrasted by the diverse facets of the actual everyday life in Africa, thus made perceptible for the movie goer.
AFRIKAMERA sees itself as a new permanent platform for dialogue between African moviemakers and the Berliner audience, and as a venue for exchange between filmmakers, producers and distributors. To attain this, AFRIKAMERA cooperates with African film festivals, from Marrakesh to Durban.
The AFRIKAMERA film days are under the aegis of Dr. Uschi Eid.

AFRIKAMERA: Aktuelles Kino aus Afrika
Der gemeinnützige Kulturverein toucouleur e.V. engagiert sich seit 2007 für den interkulturellen Dialog zwischen Afrika und Deutschland. Mit dem Filmfestival « AFRIKAMERA – Aktuelles Kino aus Afrika » wirkt toucouleur e.V. der mangelnden Präsenz des aktuellen afrikanischen Filmschaffens in der Hauptstadt entgegen.
AFRIKAMERA präsentiert dem Berliner Publikum mit Hilfe des Mediums Film die ganze Vielfalt des afrikanischen Kontinents, der nicht nur aus Problemen wie Gewalt, Krankheiten und Naturkatastrophen besteht. Diesen stereotypen Bildern und Meinungen über den Kontinent werden die vielfältigen Facetten des alltäglichen Lebens in Afrika gegenübergestellt und für die Kinobesucher erlebbar gemacht.
AFRIKAMERA versteht sich als eine neue permanente Plattform des Dialogs zwischen afrikanischen Filmemachern und dem Berliner Publikum und als Ort des Austauschs zwischen Filmschaffenden, Produzenten und Verleihern.
Hierfür arbeitet AFRIKAMERA mit den großen afrikanischen Filmfestivals von Marrakesch bis Durban zusammen.
Die Filmtage AFRIKAMERA stehen unter der Schirmherrschaft von Dr. Uschi Eid.

The moviedays AFRIKAMERA will show’the African cinema’ as varied, complex and poetic as it is, and thereby counter the prejudices and clichés that cling to a frequently misunderstood continent.
To show the diversity of African cinema, AFRIKAMERA will cooperate with the great African film festivals from Marrakech to Durban.
The film program will be accompanied by panel discussions on the issues’African cinema and cultural diversity’,’African cinema in Germany’ and’African cinema and new technologies’.
The goal of AFRIKAMERA is not only to invigorate enthusiasm for African cinema in the audience at the theatres, it is also to enhance awareness of African Cinema beyond the city perimeter. This will be facilitated through the production of a DVD-collection, where movies without German distribution will be incorporated.
