BENIMANA est une histoire de friction entre l'existence collective et individuelle. Alors qu'elle pensait son passé derrière elle, Veneranda, survivante du Génocide des Tutsi, oeuvrant pour la réconciliation, voit ses vieux démons ressurgir quand elle apprend la grossesse de sa fille, Tina, sous l'œil muet de la grand-mère qui sent l'équilibre familial vaciller.
Rwanda 2012. Le pays sort d'une ère de silence après le génocide des Tutsi de 1994, des tribunaux populaires sont mis en place avec pour objectif d'apporter justice et réconciliation. Veneranda, survivante, est convaincue de la nécessité de ces procès. Malgré les pressions, elle organise des séances de discussion entre victimes et familles de bourreaux. Thérapie pour certaines, acte de trahison pour d'autres, ces séances de témoignages ravivent et révèlent les traumatismes que chacun tente de surmonter à sa manière. Les plaies du passé de Veneranda se rouvrent lorsqu'elle apprend la grossesse inattendue de sa fille et l'identité du géniteur. Veneranda doit alors faire face à ses propres contradictions et aux parts sombres de son passé.

Elles dressent ainsi le portrait de mon pays, le Rwanda, dans son effort de se reconstruire après le Génocide des Tutsi de 1994.

Veneranda, a survivor of the Tutsi genocide working for reconciliation, must face her old demons when her daughter unexpectedly gets pregnant.
BENIMANA is a story of the friction between collective and individual existence. Veneranda, a survivor of the Tutsi genocide who is working for reconciliation, thinks her past is behind her when her old demons resurface as she learns of her daughter's pregnancy, under the silent eye of the grandmother, who feels the family balance wavering.
Rwanda, 2012. The country is emerging from an era of silence after the 1994 Tutsi genocide, and people's courts are being set up with the aim of bringing justice and reconciliation. Veneranda, a survivor, is convinced of the need for these trials. Despite pressures, she organises discussion sessions between victims and the families of the executioners. Therapy for some, an act of betrayal for others, these testimonial sessions revive and reveal the traumas that each of them try to overcome, in their own way. The wounds of Veneranda's past are exposed again when she learns of her daughter's unexpected pregnancy and the identity of the father. Veneranda has to face her own contradictions and the dark parts of her past.
