The Venice International Film Festival, organized by La Biennale di Venezia, ran at Venice Lido.

The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote all the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms: as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and tolerance. The Festival includes retrospectives and homages to major figures as a contribution towards raising awareness of the history of cinema.

Marco Müller is the Director the 68th edition (2011). He has been heading the Venice Biennale’s Cinema section since 2004.

Palazzo del Cinema (Sala Grande: 1,032 seats and Sala Volpi: 160 seats)
Sala Darsena (1,300 seats)
PalaBiennale (1,700 seats)
Sala Perla at the Palazzo del Casinò (400 seats)

Industry Meeting Points at the Casinò and at the Excelsior, for professionals only.

How to get to Lido di Venezia
– By train: after arrival at the railway station of Venezia S.Lucia, catch a vaporetto boat for the Lido (ACTV public transport routes 51/52). Alight at Lido/S. Maria Elisabetta.
– By car: leave motorway at Venice exit, follow indications for Venezia-Lido, board ACTV traghetto (ferry).
– By vaporetto (boat): from Piazzale Roma and from the railway station, ACTV routes 1 / 2 / 61 or 51/52.
Line « MdC » Train station > Lido Casinò (From 31 August to 10 September) from 4:40 pm to 1 am, and viceversa from 5:25 pm to 2:05 am. Stops at Piazzale Roma, Zattere and San Zaccaria. Service from Lido extended until the last night screenings.
Line 20 shuttle to the Festival (From 31 August to 10 September; free for all accredited visitors):
San Zaccaria > Lido Casinò from 6.45 to 1.45 am (at minutes.15 and.45; duration of journey 20 min.)
Lido Casinò > San Zaccaria from 7.10 to 2.10 am (at minutes.10 and.40; duration of journey 20 min.)
– By air: from Marco Polo airport: Alilaguna rossa line (From 31 August to 12 September); stops at Lido S.Maria Elisabetta / Casinò.

Services:
Bike sharing
Available from Saturday 27th August, organized by Comune di Venezia and ASM Venezia. Bikes may be hired and returned at Piazzale S.Maria Elisabetta / Via Candia (near to Palazzo del Cinema). Bike sharing cards distributed at the Info Point from Tuesday 30th August (4 to 8 pm, daily).
