Kiripi Katembo Siku

Kiripi Katembo Siku est né à Goma, en République Démocratique du Congo, le 20 Juin 1979. Il a étudié à l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Kinshasa. Il était producteur, photographe et peintre. Il a exposé ses photos et peintures en solo et en groupe à Kinshasa.
Reconnu sur la scène européenne, ses photographies ont été exposées à Paris à la Fondation Cartier au sein de l’exposition « Beauté Congo » où il proposait de regarder Kinshasa à travers ses flaques d’eau.
Il est décédé le 5 août 2015 à Kinshasa suite à une courte maladie.

Kiripi Katembo Siku was born in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, on June 20, 1979 and studied at the college of fine arts in Kinshasa. He is a producer, photographer, and painter. He has shown his photographs and paintings in solo and group exhibitions in Kinshasa.
He died on the 5th of August 2015 in Kinshasa.

Kiripi Katembo Siku, an art school student from the Democratic Republic of Congo, is a film maker with ingenuity and a mobile. He circumvents the restrictions and government censorship in Kinshasa, the country’s capital, by attaching his mobile phone to a toy car, setting it to film, and then giving it to a girl to pull behind her on a piece of string as she walks through the streets of Kinshasa.

The resulting « Voiture en Carton » (« Cardboard Car ») provides a rare glimpse of street-life in Kinshasa. The seven-minute film gives the viewer a clandestine look at life in the capital – feet of children, youth gambling, and an UN jeep passing by.

According to CNN, he is one of a number of filmmakers in the DR Congo who says that using a mobile phone allows him to film in ways that were previously not possble. Film makers there say that filming permits are not given out anymore to avoid exposing corruption, poverty, and crime. Those brave enough to defy the authorities and shoot without permission risk fines, arrest, or worse.

Nasce a Goma, nella RDC, nel 1979. Frequenta l’Accademia di Belle Arti a Kinshasa. E’ fotografo, produttore, regista e pittore. Ha esposto i suoi lavori fotografici e pittorici alla Biennale di Kinshasa.
