À 33 ans, Lili débarque pour la première fois de sa vie en Afrique, à Agnam, un village sahélien du Sénégal. Elle est chargée par la mairie de sa ville de photographier des équipements financés par le jumelage municipal. Si l’affection immédiate et la curiosité qu’elle suscite l’intriguent, Lili ne s’y arrête pas vraiment. Les photos qu’elle doit faire la protègent des moments où elle se sent seule, étrangère, des questions qu’on lui pose sur sa vie… D’une certaine manière, c’est à son insu qu’une jeune femme de son âge, Aminata, pose les jalons d’une amitié improbable. Pourtant, quand Lili rentre en Normandie, quelque chose s’est fêlé et la projette autrement dans le monde qui était le sien jusqu’alors. Elle fait la connaissance de Moussa, un travailleur immigré d’Agnam. C’est par lui qu’elle apprendra qu’Aminata a mis au monde un enfant bâtard et qu’elle est en danger dans sa communauté. À sa façon, Lili va devoir faire avec ce trouble profond que lui a insufflé l’Afrique. Elle repartira à Agnam. Sans la protection d’une mission professionnelle, ce second voyage sera moins superficiel, plus engageant. Et l’interrogera frontalement sur sa place.

Ce film a été tourné en 2004, en grande partie à Agnam Lidoubé, département de Matam, Sénégal.
En France comme en Afrique, il a été rendu possible par l’implication extraordinaire de la communauté peule des villages des Agnam.

Lili, a French photographer, travels to Agnam – a small village in Senegal – to do photographic work. In this country about which she knows nothing, photography forces her to communicate with the people. Regardless of cultural barriers, Lili develops a strong bond with Animata, a young girl who had a baby out of marriage and who faces a devastating decision. Their friendship will lead Lili to find a new path for her life.

Aged 33, Lili goes to Africa for the first time in her life, to Agnam, Senegal. Her local council has asked her to photograph the infrastructure they financed as part of the twinning of the two towns. Although the immediate affection and curiosity that she arouses intrigue her, Lili does not really stop to take stock.

Chantal Richard is a screenwriter and director; she was born in France in 1957. She has made a number of films, such as « Un jour je repartirai » (2003), « Charles Peguy au lavomatic » (1997), « Luis et Margot » (1997), « Paroles » (1995), « Nativité » (1990), and « Tupik » (1987). « Lili et le baobab » (2006) is her first feature film after several shorts and documentaries.

A fotógrafa francesa Lili viaja para Agnam, um pequeno povoado no Senegal, para fazer um trabalho. Neste país totalmente desconhecido a ela, a fotografia a tira do isolamento e a faz se comunicar com seu povo. Apesar da barreira cultural, Lili tem uma forte ligação com Animata, uma jovem que teve um bebê fora do casamento e encara uma decisão devastadora.
