Lola, 25 ans, vit à New York où elle travaille pour la poste en rêvant d’une carrière de danseuse. Youssef, son meilleur ami, est un jeune Egyptien gay installé à New York pour y vivre comme il l’entend. C’est par lui que Lola découvre l’histoire d’Ismahan, star de la danse orientale, véritable légende au Caire.
Dans le restaurant où Youssef travaille, Lola rencontre un autre Egyptien, Zack. L’idylle tourne rapidement court quand Zack prend conscience des différences culturelles qui les séparent et rentre en Egypte. Sans réfléchir, Lola, aussi impulsive que naïve, décide immédiatement de le rejoindre.
Arrivée au Caire, déçue par l’accueil de la famille de Zack autant que par l’attitude du jeune homme, Lola se met en tête de retrouver la fascinante danseuse Ismahan.

Synopsis

Lola, a 27 year old new yorker, hopes to become a famous dancer. When her friend Yussef tells her that a Broadway producer will have diner at the restaurant where he works, Lola is persuaded that it’s her unique opportunity: she prepares a show for the producer. There where she met with Zack, a business student, from Arab origins with whom she falls deeply in love.
One day, he lets her down and went back to Cairo.
Yussef tries to confort his friend Lola by showing her videos of the greatest belly dancer Ismahan. That’s how she decided to make a trip to Egypt in the hope of finding Zack.
In Cairo, she visits Ismahan, who living in recluse, refuses to teach her dancing. But the determination and the charisma of Lola allow her to succeed.
