Rihana est une jeune fille, la vingtaine environ, issue de la campagne. Victime d’un traumatisme aigu, elle se retrouve hospitalisée dans un asile psychiatrique. Elle croit être violée par un démon qui veut la tuer parce qu’elle est enceinte de lui. Pour elle, cet acte est béni par Le Seigneur du Cheval, un esprit vénéré par son père. Pour percer ce mystère Rihana est confiée à Zineb, une psychiatre afin qu’elle fasse parler cette jeune fille qui n’est pas très coopérante.
Zineb décide de mieux connaitre cette fille, et d’affronter son passé douloureux. Elle ne sait pas si cette fille ment, dit la vérité ou juste se réfugie dans un monde imaginaire et fantaisiste…
Les cartes s’embrouillent, Zineb perd petit à petit le contrôle de la situation, et l’histoire prend un autre détour.

A young woman of about 20 years old from the village is in a fancy interior world and believes having been raped by a demon that would like killing her because she is pregnant from him. Zuneb, a psychiatrist discovers in him strange things. This demon does it exist?


A surreal coming-of-age drama featuring calligraphy and horses, told through flashbacks and dreamscapes, Pegasus is a story of a young girl who is found on the streets, wounded and with no memories of her past but a mental reference to an unknown Lord of the Horse. The plotline is intertwined with the experiences of the troubled psychiatrist Dr Zineb, who is treating the young woman in a hospital and trying to find out who she is.

Shot using the RED camera, the aesthetic appeal of the film is stunning. Rolling fields, farmland and hills, as well as the beautiful architecture of ancient villages are brought to life in vibrant colours, contrasting greatly with the sombre and oppressive grey of the indoor hospital scenes. An innovative and incisive critique of Islamic patriarchy, PEGASUS won the Golden Stallion at the 2011 Fespaco Film Festival.
